Cultural Center of Spain
Here we are, at the Cultural Center of Spain in Montevideo, a Uruguayan cultural center that stands at 629 Rincón Street, between Juan Carlos Gómez and Bartolomé Miter, in the Old City of Montevideo. This space was created in 2003, at the initiative of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation. Its purpose is to promote and develop both Spanish culture and Uruguayan cultural initiatives. Currently, the owner of the Cultural Center of Spain in Montevideo is Paula Olivares Murcia. The complex that houses the cultural center has a fascinating history. In the eighties, the building was acquired by the State. Its importance was recognized in 1996, when it received the declaration of National Historical Monument at the initiative of the National Cultural Heritage Commission. That same year, it was granted a loan to the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation for a period of thirty years, in order to install a cultural complex here. The installation works were carried out by architects, including Rafael Lorente. Today, the CCE Montevideo has a varied program of free activities for the public. Here you will find exhibits…
