Paleontological Space We arrived at the “Armando Calcaterra” Paleontological Space! We are located in the Real de San Carlos area, quite close to the emblematic Plaza de Toros and a few minutes from the historic center of Colonia del Sacramento. Story: The passion of a neighbor. The origin of this site is very particular. It was not born from the plan of a great institution, but from the effort, curiosity and selfless work of Don Armando Calcaterra, a self-taught resident of the area. For years, Armando traveled along the banks and coastal ravines of the Río de la Plata and nearby areas such as San Pedro and El Caño, rescuing invaluable fossil remains that were exposed by erosion. Over time, he not only gathered a huge collection, but built a space next to his home to display it. Finally, he decided to donate both his house and the entire collection to the Municipality of Colonia to ensure its preservation and share it with the public. The present: What are we seeing today? Today, this place is part of the city's museum network. Its exhibition works under the concept of, reserve on view, which means that you will see a great density of pieces organized in showcases and thematic sectors.
