Here we are in front of one of the most emblematic buildings in the city: the Faculty of Law of the University of the Republic (UdelaR). As you can see, it not only stands out for its imposing architecture, but also for being the main house of the public and secular university in the country. History. To understand the relevance of this place, you have to travel back in time. The history of this institution dates back to 1838 with the creation of the Chair of Jurisprudence, although its final installation occurred on July 18, 1849, a date that is considered the birth of the Uruguayan public university.
