Casa Carlos Gardel Museum

Here we are, in the heart of Abasto, in Buenos Aires, in front of the Casa Carlos Gardel Museum. This house museum is, neither more nor less, the residence where the immortal tango singer, composer and film actor, Carlos Gardel, lived. Imagine that you are entering what was his home, the place he shared with his mother, Marie Berthe Gardes, known as Berta Gardés. Gardel bought this property in 1927, making it his home and a silent witness to his life. After his mother's death, Jean Jaures' house was auctioned off or sold, marking the end of a family era. However, his story did not end there. In the early 1970s, and for almost a decade, this same space was transformed into the tango bar "La Casa de Carlos Gardel", managed by Virgilio Machado, keeping the essence of tango alive. In 1996, Argentine businessman Eduardo Eurnekian bought the house on behalf of Multimedios América, with the clear intention of creating a museum. A year later, in 1997, a presidential decree declared the house a National Historic Monument, recognizing its incalculable value. However, Eurnekian abandoned the museum project to avoid what he called "bureaucratic tangles." Fortunately, at the end of 2000, from Aeropuertos Argentina 2000, Eurnekian donated the property to the city of Buenos Aires and provided essential funds for its restoration. The Directorate…
