Hello! What a joy that you are here, in front of one of the great icons of Montevideo. If you look up, you will immediately notice that the Palacio Salvo is no ordinary building; It has an imposing, somewhat mysterious presence that has defined the horizon of our Plaza Independencia for almost a century. Let me tell you a little about its history, its present and those secrets that make it unique. A beacon of greatness in history To understand this giant, we have to travel to the 1920s. Uruguay was experiencing a time of tremendous economic prosperity. The brothers Ángel, José and Lorenzo Salvo—three very successful textile businessmen—wanted to give the city a monument that reflected that optimism. They commissioned the design to the Italian architect Mario Palanti, and the result was a mass 101 meters high. When it was inaugurated, on October 12, 1928, it proudly became the tallest building in Latin America. The Palace today: a vertical community Although it was born with the idea of ​​being a luxury hotel and office complex, the destiny of the palace changed. Today it is a predominantly residential and commercial building. It houses around 370 units, which means it is practically an entire neighborhood vertically.
