Colonel Park. Mancebo

Here we are, we arrive at the Francisco Mancebo Municipal Park. We are in the Pinares neighborhood, at Stop 31 of Playa Mansa, entering the Camino a la Laguna. As you can see when you cross the entrance, the environment changes immediately: we leave behind the direct breeze from the coast to enter a serene and shaded forest, considered one of the most representative traditional public spaces of the department. History. The origin of this property is closely linked to the historical process of dune fixation and forestation that transformed the coastal landscape of Maldonado in the early and mid-20th century. The lands that today make up the park were part of the extensive pine plantations promoted by pioneers in the region to consolidate the sandy lands. Subsequently, the area was transferred to the municipal orbit and named in honor of Francisco Mancebo, a neighbor and reference linked to local history and development. Over the decades, it evolved from a rustic wooded area to a structured recreational park for the community. Present. Currently, the park functions as a free family daytime meeting point, managed by the Municipality of Maldonado.
