Indigenous Park You're coming! Welcome to the Indigenous Park. We are located on Avenida Aparicio Saravia, right on the bank of Arroyo Maldonado. As you can immediately notice, the environment changes completely: we leave the urban dynamics behind to enter a true natural and heritage refuge of the department. History. This property covers about 20 hectares and was originally conceived with an educational and conservation purpose: to protect a representative sample of the native ecosystem of eastern Uruguay and bring it closer to both local schools and the community. Historically, the banks of Arroyo Maldonado and its riverside mountains were inhabited and traveled by indigenous populations prior to colonization, from which it takes its name. For years it functioned as a traditional municipal park, but over time its value was consolidated as a reserve that seeks to rescue and perpetuate the memory of the vegetation that covered this region before coastal and tourist development. Present. Today, the park is integrated as a key piece within the Paseo de la Costa environmental corridor. It is a public space highly chosen by both neighbors and visitors looking for tranquility, walks outdoors or a day of rest in the shade.
