Parque Rodó

We arrived at Parque José Enrique Rodó! As you can see, this is one of the most emblematic and beloved green spaces in Montevideo. We are in a place that combines nature, entertainment and culture just a few steps from the coast. History. To understand this park we must go back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when it began to be laid out as the old "Urban Park." The landscape design was carried out by the renowned French landscape architects Carlos Thays and Carlos Racine, who conceived a European-inspired layout. Starting in 1903, the characteristic artificial lake was built and ornamental elements were incorporated. Over time, the park was renamed José Enrique Rodó, in homage to the famous Uruguayan essayist and writer. Present. Today, the park covers about 42 hectares and functions as a true meeting point for Montevideo residents. Around us we can see its large artificial lake of more than 17,000 m², where boats are rented to explore it, and the historic castle that houses the "María Stagnero de Munar" Children's Library. The environment brings together a very varied offer: The Ramón Collazo Summer Theater, the main stage for carnival shows and open-air music.
